What is board and train, and how does it work?

Board and train means your dog comes to live with us for a set period and trains every day inside a real routine. It is the fastest route to a genuine change, because the dog is not going home each evening to the habits that caused the problem.

The short answer

Your dog moves in, follows a structured daily routine of obedience, socialisation, exposure and calmness work, and you get updates throughout. At the end there is a full handover session so you can hold the standard at home. Programmes run from two week resets to full six week transformations, depending on the dog.

A typical day

Structure is the point. Morning routine and toileting, obedience work, rest, exposure or environmental work out of the house, more rest, an afternoon session, then settled downtime. Rest is training too, because a dog that cannot switch off cannot learn.

What dogs come to us for

●Pulling, poor recall and general lack of control.
●Reactivity on the lead towards dogs or people.
●Adolescent dogs that have outgrown the household rules.
●Rescue dogs that need structure and confidence.
●Owners who simply do not have the hours and want it done properly.

The handover is the part that matters

A trained dog handed back to untrained handling regresses. That is why the handover session is included, and why we stay contactable afterwards. You need to be able to get the same responses we do.

Being honest about limits

Board and train is not a magic wand for a household that will not change anything. If we think a programme will not hold at home, we will say so before you book.
